The Wayne City Board of Education held its regular February meeting on Thursday,  February 15.

Information from administration was shared with the Board that included:

  • Aimsweb+ scores at the elementary level showed significant growth compared to the fall scores.
  • 8th grader, Harper Beehn, and 5th grader, Alex Barbre, recently competed at the Wayne County Spelling Bee.  Alex received a plaque for placing 2nd among all participants and Harper place 4th.
  • Extracurricular summary and schedule for the end of the winter seasons.
  • Makayla Reynolds was selected as the Wayne City High School SAR winner for exhibiting good citizenship, leadership, cooperation, dependability, congeniality, and patriotism.
  • Farnsworth Group, the district's new architectural firm, is working on a draft of the new outdoor classroom/playground area that will be located on the east side of the school building.

The Board acted on the following personnel related items.  Jenna Talbert resigned from her position as assistant HS girls' basketball coach.  She will be taking on the role of guidance counselor, replacing Ruth Kissner after her retirement at the end of this school year.  Additionally,  Amy Wilson was approved as a volunteer GS volleyball assistant.  

The graduation date was officially set.  High school graduation will be Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 pm in the J. Conrad Allen Gymnasium.  Grade school graduation will be Sunday, May 19 at 3:30 pm.

The Board approved three new high school courses for next school year including Principles of Agricultural Science, Food Science, and a Building Trades program.  In addition,  Enrichment Classes will begin for students in grades 3-12.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, at 6:00 pm in the administrative conference room.
