The Wayne City Board of Education held its regular March meeting on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
Jacob Heck and Ryan Reu, from Farnsworth group gave a presentation on a three phase outdoor learning area which includes a pavilion and recreation areas. The location of the project is straight east of the back parking lot.
Information from administration was shared with the Board that included:
Student recognition from the Illinois Principals Association for Laycee Caldwell, Asa Smith, Anistyn White, Ben Thomason, Joey Greenwalt, and Zoe Wiggins.
State testing for both the grade school and high school has or is taking place and will be done prior to Spring Break.
Recognition of Mrs. Keen and the Chieftain Yearbook Staff on another successful SISPA Conference. Mrs. Keen was named the 2024 W. Manion Rice Yearbook Adviser of the Year.
Preschool screening and Kindergarten registration will be April 25th and 26th at the Baptist Church.
The Board acted on the following personnel items. The Board accepted resignations for Nyle Musgrave (Varsity JH Boys Basketball) and Hunter Clark (Head HS Girls Basketball) as well the retirement of James Reynolds(Bus Mechanic). The Board acted to employ the following fall and winter coaches: Brianna Anderson (JH Softball), Angie Kelly, (JH Cross Country), Lamar Choate (HS Volleyball), Matt Griswold(HS Asst Volleyball, Rick Hays(JH Girls Basketball), Daniel White & Tommy Lewis(JH Girls Basketball Volunteers), Ashely White(JH Cheer), Jake Talbert(Head HS Boys Basketball), Jesse Harrison(HS Boys JV Basketball), Chad Dickey(HS Boys Basketball Volunteer), and Kelsey Gregory. Finally, the Board approved the employment of Stacy Taylor as the JH Special Education Teacher.
In other action, the Board approved a cellular upgrade to the Security Alarm System. The annual membership to the IHSA was renewed for the 2024-2025 school year.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is Thursday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the administrative conference room.
