The Wayne City Board of Education held its regular November meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Administration shared information with the Board that included:
Wayne City Elementary and Wayne City received a commendable summative designation from ISBE.
Recognition of the high school volleyball team on an outstanding season along with individual team members Emma Griswold, Kenzie Seidel, Rylie Backes, and Kyia Cone who made the MTC All-Conference 1st team, Abi Lane who made MTC Honorable Mention and Lamar Choate who was named MTC Coach of the Year.
Jr High basketball is in full swing with the girls record at 6-3 and the boys only loss has been to Flora in the Fairfield Tournament. The boys finished first in the Rome Tournament and the cheerleaders finished third.
Red Ribbon Week was a success. Mrs. Talbert and Ms. McCormick organized fun days for student to dress up and get involved along with the school-wide picnic. There was great participation and attendance all week.
The Board approved several consent agenda items including minutes from the October meeting, eliminating closed session minutes from May 2023, and the non-certified seniority list for FY 25.
The Board acted on the following personnel items. Misty Boyd was hired as a long term substitute teacher and Josh Simpson was hired as bus mechanic pending successful completion of the required documentation. The resignations of Jessica Fagan as high school drama sponsor, Payton Sowa as junior high baseball coach, and Robert Caudle, a bus driver, were accepted.
In other action, the Board approved a tentative 2024 tax levy. A tax levy hearing is set for December 19, 2024 at 5:45 pm in the administrative conference room. Approval for the Property Tax Relief Grant application was given. The Board approved the District's Risk Management Plan and an increase in pay for game officials. Finally, a MOU with the non-certified staff for the addition of General Election Day as a paid holiday was approved.
