The Wayne City Board of Education held its regular January meeting on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Administration shared information with the Board that included:
An update on extracurricular activities with cancellations and rescheduling due to inclement weather.
School spelling bee will take place in the near future as the county spelling bee will be hosted at City Hall in Fairfield on February 6th.
Scheduling of end of the year events such as Freshman Orientation, Awards Day and field trips is beginning.
The pouring of concrete for the outdoor learning/play area has been completed. Once fabrication of the canopy is complete, the shelter and basketball goals will be installed.
The Board approved several consent agenda items including minutes from December levy hearing and regular meeting. There was a six month review of closed session minutes and closed session minutes from the July 2023 were eliminated. The Board approved the Post Prom trip to Skyzone in Belleville and FFA to the Ground Zero Conference at SIU. Additionally, Wayne White Electric Cooperative and The Tumble Barn facility usage requests were approved.
The Board acted on the following personnel items. Misty Boyd was hired as a long term substitute teacher and Gavin Fetherling was hired as a HS boys volunteer basketball coach.
In other action, graduation is set for Sunday, May 18. The high school graduation will be at 2:00 pm and the grade school graduation will follow at 3:30 pm. Lastly, the Board approved a copier lease agreement with GFI.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is Thursday, February 20, at 6:00 pm in the administrative conference room.
