The Wayne City Board of Education held its regular February meeting on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Administration shared information with the Board that included:

  • Recognition of the junior high cheerleaders and boys basketball team closing out competitive and successful seasons.

  • Recognition of several student successes-

    • Tylen Burnett & Alex Barbre, school spelling bee winners

    • Caylan Piper, participation at the ILMEA All-State band festival

    • Eowyn Smith 2nd in computer science & Alayna White 3rd in math at the ACES competition

    • Kenna Anselment recognized as a 2025 Service Academy Nominee

    • Conner Gerrish, 1st place in the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program

    • Lily Barbre, February Senior of the Month

  • WWLL Board proposal to upgrade the lights on the baseball field to LEDs.

The Board approved several consent agenda items including minutes from the January 16 meeting and elimination of executive session minutes from August 2023. The Board approved several field trips requests including:

  • HS Beta Club to State Convention in Springfield, IL March 6 & 7

  • History Club to Louisville, KY April 1

  • FCCLA to Ronald McDonald House in Evansville, IN May 6

  • 1st grade to Children's Museum in Evansville, IN May 15

  • 7th grade to Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN May 22

  • FFA to State Convention in Springfield, IL June 10-12

In personnel items, Grace Schuster was hired as a high school science teacher and Misty Boyd was hired as a long term substitute teacher. The calendar for the 2025-2026 school year was approved.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is Thursday, March 20, at 6:00 pm in the administrative conference room.
